Gwen's Visit and David and Amanda's Shower - first week of June 2021

Bob's sister Gwen took some vacation days to drive down from Ohio to see us.  She said she didn't want to do anything except catch some R&R, so it was a very laid back visit.  It happened that the last day she'd be here was the day for David and Amanda's shower, so it was a great opportunity for her and Amanda to meet.

It should have taken about 10 hours for Gwen to get here, but due to traffic, accidents, and construction, she was on the road about 13 hours.  Before she pulled into the driveway, I had Irish cream ready for her.
The shower was held at the home of  one of Amanda's parents' long time friends and neighbors,  Liz and Greg, in Roswell, Georgia, a little over  two hours from Seneca.  Here are the bride-and-groom-to-be.
Since David and Amanda are avid deep sea fisher-folk, the shower theme was along those lines. Everyone was encouraged  to try their luck fishing.
A wading pool with magnetic fish was set up on the back deck. Each fish had points written on it.
Here Greg (host and tournament judge) tallies points for Amanda's brother Andrew while his wife Jill hopes Andrew's score doesn't beat hers! (Spoiler alert...it didn't...Jill was the winner.  However, if we were playing "golf fishing" I would've won).
David is definitely used to bigger rigs and fish!
Amanda's dad, Mike should have won a prize for the smallest catch.
Gwen watches the fun after taking her 3 casts.
The party continues inside with Amanda doing Jello-shots
I couldn't resist capturing her chipmunk, Jello filled cheeks.
Then it was time to open their gifts.
After that, we moved to the outside so that Amanda could take a whack at the shark shaped pinata filled with favors for the guests.
Judging by the scant remains on the buffet table, the shower was a great success!  We are looking forward to more fun at their Islamorada wedding June 27th.

We Meet Again in Calabash - May 17 -20th

For at least 11 years (?) we have reunited with long time friends in Calabash, NC.  We were able to get a campsite at The Wishing Well campground in Sunset Beach, just a few miles from where Jay and Plish have homes in the Brunswick Plantation.  It was touch and go as to whether this reunion would take place.  Jay is still recovering from surgery, Plish had some eye problems,  and there was a gas shortage due to the cyber attack on the Colonial Pipeline. But, it all worked out, and we were able to visit with our friends for three nights.  Photos, though, are few, and none of Jay.  It seems none of us had our best face forward.

John, Bob, and Roscoe (under John's chair) at Sunset Beach on the Grand Strand
Plish chilling out, too.  It was good beach weather at 77 degrees, but not for getting into the ocean.
John, Bob and Paul at Jay and Paul's house.  Each of us ladies provided a dinner for one night, served at Jay's.  After dinner, we played Phase 10 and gabbed and laughed a lot.  Jay, Plish and I have been friends for 61 years.  We know we are lucky to have such a wonderful friendship that withstands the test of time....
...Just as Bob and I have these past 35 years.
