Gwen, Bob's sister, also decided to take a break from Jack Frost and drove down from Ohio to spend a few days with us. Her long time friend from Florida, Ellen, drove up from Cocoa to visit with Gwen and us before continuing on her way to her sister and brother-in-law's in Pennsylvania.
About a week before Gwen's visit, we decided to get another (used) boat that was for sale by a private owner. The boat was in excellent condition, but the tires on the trailer were original and had been exposed to too much sun.
Bob knew the tires were in bad shape and was as careful as he could be getting home. One tire blew just as he was about 1/4 mile from our house. Amid a lot of clunking and clattering, he managed to get the boat and trailer into our driveway.
New tires on the trailer and the boat was ready to launch for our maiden voyage the day after Gwen got here. Gwen is texting son-in-law Tony to let him know there are no fish in Lake Hartwell.
Sunday was misty and overcast...a good day to visit the Rabun Flea Market in Dillard, Georgia where we saw some interesting sights such as this.
Ellen was supposed to arrive on Monday, but she delayed her trip due to heavy storms that hit Florida and us. She got here late Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday was bright and sunny. The ladies and I went to a few thrift stores, and then I showed them one of the county parks that recently gave seniors annual free entry passes.
Oops! Gwen was in too much of a hurry to notice the sign.
And found it had more fish than Hartwell
Then on to Chau Ram Falls, another of Oconee's county parks free to seniors.
This park is one of our favorites.
Unfortunately, fishing was better at the bird bath! Better luck next visit, Gwen!
