Visiting the covered bridge in Landrum has been on the "Day Trips List" since we moved to SC. Today seemed like a good day to be able to cross it off the list.
The bridge was built in 1909 over Beaver Creek and has undergone restorations over the years, and the park is currently undergoing another one. The bridge is on the National Register of Historic Properties and under the auspices of Greenville County's park system.
Named for the original landowner, Lafayette Campbell, who owned a grist mill near the bridge, it is the largest and oldest of covered bridges in the area that is still standing. The bridge reduced travel time between the rural towns in the early 1900's from a day to an hour.
