Onion River Campground, Plainfield, VT Sept 10 & 11 2019

We knew we'd have to hit some traffic, and we did going thru Albany.  But, it wasn't that bad, and by 3 o'clock, we were able to stop at Onion River Campground, in Plainfield, VT about 13 miles east of Montpelier.  We decided to make this a two night stay...just to get rid of the road dust and one night stands.
One of the fish murals along the way.
Shot from the bridge across the Onion River  into the campground .
                                          The river behind our campsite.
For some reason, there were broken memorial stones of WWII and Viet Nam soldiers on the path to the river.
The next day, we went into St Johnsbury, about 20 miles away.  It is a very picturesque town.  We happened upon a store that had both a vest that Bob liked and  a lined hoodie for me that will be great for the winter.
The internet showed The Dog Chapel as a place of interest in St Johnsbury, and I was curious to see what it was.
An artist, Steve Huneck, who survived a near death experience, designed and built this tribute to dogs to honor their spiritual connection to man.
The walls inside the chapel were lined with pictures of loved four footed friends of those who had visited Dog Mountain...
and with  stained glass windows created by Huneck,
Even the fence posts had representations of dogs.  Roscoe really enjoyed his sniffs here.  Sadly, even after surviving the coma and out of body experience Huneck had at age 45, 16 years later, he committed suicide.
On a happier note, we stopped at this gorgeous state park in Marshfield on the way back to our campsite.
Rain clouds were on the horizon, but didn't interfere with our stop.
There is a boat ramp here and picnic tables...a great place to enjoy Mother Nature.
Roscoe agrees!
