Cherrystone & Cape Charles
The rain stopped during the night, but the wind howled. Although it was sunny in the morning, the wind continued throughout the day and the temperature was around 66. The campground is quite large, with adult and children's swimming pools, paddle boat ponds, fishing pier, general store, laundry facility, cafe, arcade, tennis courts, large ball fields and picnic areas...a perfect place for a family to spend some time during the summer. Since this wasn't "season" yet, many of the amenities were not available. We decided to drive into Cape Charles, south of the campground. The small town was established in the 1880's for railroad and ferry business. Today, beyond the old Victorian styled homes is an area with upscale shops and a marina to accommodate the high value homes there. The town has a very nice public fishing pier and a long stretch of beach along the bay with free parking on the street. A beautiful sunset ended our day. Tomorrow we will head to Atlantic City.
