At Crater Laker, we were amazed to see how much snow there was. Most of the scenic turnouts were obscured by the mounds of snow that had been plowed from the road. The east rim was closed due to snow. It was a little worrisome because we could see some small avalanches starting where some of the snow was beginning to melt. The bare looking area in the photo on the right is the Pumice Desert, and area where the pumice doesn't permit much vegetation growth.
