This should be a fun one, I'm trying to have the blog show from top down starting with the first photo of the day and ending with the last one.

We hit the road about eight a.m. again for a short trip to Cedar City UT. It turned into another day of Wows. Escalante is on a plateau and is very flat, and only at about 6,000 feet high. Within about 20 miles we started to see big changes, and nice ones at that. Kind of reminds me of Florida weather, if you don't like it just hang around, it will change soon. The changes today were like yesterday's, too. Each turn seemed to bring something different. We did find on Utah Rt 89 that the signs said road not recommened for use by trucks due to sharp turns and grades over 8%.

We figured we were not a truck so we went for it. The road was about 40 miles long and ended at Cedar City. About 10 miles in we saw a rental RV coming toward us so we figured we were ok. The first half was not bad at all and was really a beautiful drive, even saw a large deer in the road. Then we started to climb, and climb, and climb. The only elevation we saw said 9,777 feet, but I think we had already been going down for quite a bit by then. We did have to pull over several times to allow the brakes to cool to avoid damaging them. The road had a lot of hairpin turns where the speed limit was 15 to 25 MPH, and the drop off was at anywhere from 4% to 8% and the down hill was listed as 10 miles long. The interstate roads do not allow a grade of more than 6% if that gives you some idea of the road conditions.

Hope you enjoy the ride as much as we did...
