Today, Wednesday, June 9th, we are at Eureka, CA on Rte 101. Yesterday was quite an adventure. We were on the road for 10 hours and went only 383 miles...meaning we averaged less than 39 mph. There were a lot of delays due to road construction, speed limit around Lake Tahoe was only 25 mph, plus it was very congested, the twists and turns on the steep grades didn't allow for speedway driving. We went to Lassen Volcanic Park only to find the road was closed due to snow and road construction. The ranger gave us a route through the backroads to get to the rv park where we had reservations. It was like being somewhere from Deliverance. The detour was only about 46 miles, but took us almost 2 hours due to the steep grades and turns. The transmission on the truck began to overheat, and we thought we would be stuck in the middle of Lava Land with no cell phone or internet connection. Thankfully, we made it to Old Station and our campsite for the night. We thought we could get the transmission fluid changed and the brakes checked in Eureka, but we got here too late today to have it done. We will continue up the coast tomorrow, although the weather has made a turn for the worse...rain and temps in the 50's.
I still haven't gotten the hang of posting these photos. I thought I was going to get them posted from yesterday to today, but it seems once again the most recent are first. I'm sure you'll get the gist of it.
